Fall is our busiest season at The Chapel at Dragonfly Farms, and it's not hard to see why. The property sits on five acres in the Ozark foothills, and when the colors turn in late October the whole landscape shifts. The trees go gold and rust and copper, the light drops lower and warmer in the afternoons, and the entire property looks like someone staged it for a photograph.
Nobody staged it. That's just what fall looks like out here.
We just wrapped our busiest stretch of the year, and looking back at the last several weeks I keep coming back to the same thought: every event was different, and every one of them felt right. That's the thing about fall weddings at The Chapel. The season does a lot of the work for you.
The Light
I need to start here because the photographers who shoot at the property in October and November will tell you the same thing. Fall golden hour on this property is something else.
The sun drops behind the tree line and for about forty-five minutes everything turns warm. The stone arch in The Ceremony Grove catches it in a way that makes whatever is standing underneath it look like a painting. The stone pathways glow. The pine trees throw long shadows across the lawn. If your photographer knows what they're doing (and ours do!) the portraits from a fall wedding here look different from any other time of year.
You don't need extra lighting, special filters, or post-production tricks. You just need to be standing in the right place at the right time, and the property gives you plenty of right places.

Indoor, Outdoor, or Both
One question I hear a lot from couples considering a fall date is whether they should plan for indoor or outdoor. The honest answer is that it depends entirely on what you want, and fall makes both options work beautifully.
This year we had an almost even split between indoor and outdoor ceremonies and receptions during our fall season. Some couples wanted to be outside under the trees with the colors behind them. Others wanted the warmth and intimacy of The Chapel's original 1882 interior. A few did ceremonies outdoors and moved inside for the reception. There's no formula.
The weather in October and November in the Arkansas River Valley is generally comfortable, but evenings can get crisp. That's where The Pavilion really earns its reputation. The permanently installed radiant heaters are there if you need them, but plenty of fall evenings don't require them at all. What really sets the mood on a fall night is the Edison bulb cafe lights flickering overhead while your guests are finishing dinner, enjoying drinks, and settling into the evening. There's a romantic quality to it that's hard to replicate any other way.
If you're worried about the weather on a specific fall day, don't be. We have four ceremony spaces and the flexibility to move between them. That's been true every season we've operated, and fall is no exception.

What Your Vendors Bring to the Table
I want to take a moment to recognize the vendors who worked with us this fall. I'm keeping it general because the list is long and I don't want to leave anyone out, but our photographers, caterers, florists, DJs, bakers, and coordinators showed up for every event and made good celebrations even better.
A wedding venue provides the space. The vendors bring it to life. We're fortunate to work with people who care as much about the couple's experience as we do, and this fall was a great reminder of that. If you're in the planning process and need vendor recommendations, we have a preferred list of people we trust and are happy to share it.
Why Fall Books First
If there's one practical takeaway from this post, it's this: fall dates go fast.
Saturdays in fall book years in advance. We already have an October Saturday booked for 2028! Friday and Sunday fall dates follow closely behind. If you're considering a fall wedding at The Chapel and you have a specific date in mind, reach out sooner rather than later. We can't hold dates without a signed agreement and deposit, and we can only accommodate one event per day for DIY, Elegant Inclusive, and Dragonfly packages (elopements can share a date with one other elopement).
The good news is that weekday fall dates are often still available with shorter notice, and weekday rates are more affordable across every package. If you have flexibility on the day of the week, a weekday fall wedding gives you the same property, the same colors, the same golden hour, and the same experience.
It's Worth the Wait
There's a reason couples plan a year or more in advance to get married here in the fall. The property earns it. The colors, the light, the temperature, the feel of the evening. It all comes together in a way that's hard to explain until you've been here for it.

If you've been thinking about a fall date, come tour the property. Even if the peak color has passed for this year, you'll see the bones of the space and understand why it transforms the way it does when the season arrives.
The Chapel at Dragonfly Farms is a historic 1882 wedding venue in Dover, Arkansas, just north of Russellville in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. We offer packages from $495 to $18,995 with four ceremony spaces, five acres of connected grounds, and a team that just finished its best fall season yet.
We'd love to show you why.
